9 Questions With Tara Strong

Tara Strong plays Raven, the mystical, gothic and slightly creepy hero. Strong is definitely an artist when it comes to developing interesting voices. She has a number of notable voice credits under her belt such as Bubbles from Cartoon Network's The Powerpuff Girls, Baby Dil on The Rugrats and Timmy on the The Fairly Odd Parents. She also has had roles on Batman: The Animated Series, Filmore and Proud Family and has performed in many animated feature films including The Little Mermaid II, Ice Age and Spirited Away.

Freelance writer Kevin Gunn caught up with Tara for a quick Q&A session...

Kevin Gunn:  How did you get started doing voiceover work?

Tara Strong at San Diego Comicon 2005

Tara Strong: When I was thirteen my agent sent me out for "Hello Kitty" and the rest is history.

KG: Before you started working in animation, did you watch cartoons? What was/were your favorite(s) when you were younger?

TS: I loved the Flintstones, Smurfs & Wait Til Your Father Gets Home.

KG: Okay, I love your work on Teen Titans! Raven is such an interesting character; do the producers and/or directors ask you and the rest of  the cast for ad-libs or opinions?

TS: Mostly we stick to the script on Teen Titans, but actors are always free to voice their opinion.

KG:  Of what has already been shown on Cartoon Network; what  has been your favorite episode of Teen Titans?

TS: I liked when we saw all the different Ravens [NEVERMORE], the Kitten episode [DATE WITH DESTINY] and the Trigon/young Raven episode [THE END, part three].

KG: From your official site (www.tarastrong.com http://www.tarastrong.com ), I noticed that you are a working parent. How do you find the time to balance work and home with your family?

TS: Luckily I can bring the kids a lot and I can come home  between jobs to see them as well.

KG: Do your kids have a favorite character that you've provided  the a voice for?
TS: Sammy loves FOP, Jakers & especially the Psycho on Spider-Man!

KG: Have you met Marv Wolfman and/or George Pérez? If so, what  have they said about your version of their character?

TS: Marv has always been very  complimentary.

KG: Aside from Teen Titans, what are you working on next?  Live action and voiceover, because we enjoy seeing your lovely face and hearing your fantastic voice!

TS: I am working on various animated projects (like Season Five of Teen Titans and the new The Batman vs. Dracula DTV) but currently no on-camera. Sadly, it's difficult to fit theatrical  opportunities into my busy voice schedule. I wish I could do it all.

KG: Okay, last question: Can you cast a spell about what's  coming up on Teen Titans?

TS: Another cool season!! And some cool new characters.....you'll have to watch and see!
