update >december 18 >> 2006Glen Murakami Refelects on Five Seasons with the Teen Titans
How did TEEN TITANS develop as a series? What about those Batman/Justice League crossover discussions? Why didn't Starfire get a season arc? Which villain was hard to figure out? What are the secrets behind Red X? How was the story developed for the last episode, THINGS CHANGE? What Titans stories remained on the cutting room floor? What would have happened in the sixth season? Which Titans would have "graduated" to their adult persona?
Its Glen Murakami Producer of Teen Titans the animated series - in perhaps his most comprehensive TEEN TITANS interview ever. Check out Five Seasons of Murakanime : An Interview with Glen Murakami: Glen takes some time to talk about how TEEN TITANS developed from season one through season five. update > september 9 >> 2006"Teen Titans: Trouble In Tokyo" Airs Friday & Saturday
Cartoon Network announced they're airing "Teen Titans: Trouble In Tokyo" on Friday, September 15th as well as Saturday, September 16th at 7:30pm Eastern.
Here's how the network describes the movie: Teen Titans: Trouble In Tokyo: America’s coolest heroes head to Japan in their first animated movie, Teen Titans Tokyo, airing in late fall. When a high-tech ninja attacks Titans Tower, Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Raven and Beast Boy spring into action. Robin finds out that the ninja was sent by a mysterious and menacing Japanese criminal known as Brushogun, and the Teen Titans travel to Tokyo to track the villain down.David Slack, who wrote the movie, described it as a high-adventure set in Tokyo; He mentioned how the show was inspired by anime, so it made sense to do an adventure with a Japanese locale. They had fun using some Japanese-anime elements in the film. David also mentioned that the film would feature some romance between two main characters. Fans of the show should be able to easily guess which two characters are featured in that regard. Another highlight of the movie: Beast Boy does Karaoke. How much more incentive do you need?
I don't want to spoil too much about the movie, but I will give a few teasers: A Titans East member has a VERY brief cameo; The romance aspect is very satisfying; and the end credits have a great not-to-be-missed audio track.

update > junly 10 >> 2006Wonder Girl Go!
Wonder Girl is set to appear in the pages of TEEN TITANS GO! Newsarama reports: "Though the animated series its based on may be over, Teen Titans Go! is still going strong, and in October’s issue #36, will see a new cast member join – one that’s been asked about frequently, seen only very briefly in the series, and has a long history with the Teen Titans. Oh, heck – as if the image isn’t giving it away…we’ll just get over to asking series writer, J. Torres questions about the series and the debut of Wonder Girl. Interior pages by regular series artist, Todd Nauck."
J. Torres reveals: "We jump right into the story and she comes over from Paradise Island to give her friends a hand with... an alien threat. [..] Long story short: we basically had to wait to get the okay from the powers that be. She only made a couple of quick appearances in the last season of the show and we never really saw her in action. It's my understanding that there was some kind of licensing issue that prevented the animators from really using her. For the most part, we had to follow the show's lead in terms of new characters but now that it's wrapped, we have a little more freedom in that department."
How will Wonder Girl be used in the series?
"Well, the story is called "Troy." And she pretty much has the same powers as her DCU sisters. She may be different in that her attitude is maybe closer to Diana as a girl, or as I imagine she would be at 15 or 16. [...] I'm playing it as if she's already a Titan and has worked with them before. After all, she was seen in "Calling All Titans" and "Titans Together" albeit as a headshot. But the insinuation is that she was there to help the Titans take down the Brotherhood of Evil. So, I write it like she has to sneak off of Paradise Island like a teenage girl not allowed to go out on her own and that explains why she's seen limited action thus far."

Rob took some time out of his busy schedule to talk with titanstower.com about the Teens of Tomorrow. Click here to read the interview!
update > june 27 >> 2006Teen Titans writers visit the 31st century
Looks like the "Teen Titans" writers can't escape the traumas of teendom. While former Story Editor Rob Hoegee has taken the reins of Kids-WB!'s LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES with JLU's James Tucker, Titans fans will also see more familiar names in the writing credits. David Slack revealed, "While I've been on hiatus [from "Law & Order,"], I've just completed an episode of LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES for the illustrious Rob Hoegee."
"Yeah, I was lucky enough to have both Amy [Wolfram] and David come in and do an episode or two," Rob noted. "I'm nearing the last legs of the first season of LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES. And as reported, it will air this fall on the Kids-WB! on the CW network. It will be on at 11am just before THE BATMAN."
With Rob Hoegee, David Slack and Amy Wolfram writing the teens of tomorrow, Titans fans will surely want to visit the 31st century this fall on the Kids-WB! Stay tuned for some more exciting LEGION news here at titanstower.com!

update > june 3 >> 2006Mas Y Menos Come to Comics
The Pulse reports on a DC Nation panel from this weekend's Wizard World Philadelphia!
"Mas y Menos will be in the Teen Titans comics."
"When asked if there was a character that he would have liked to see killed during Crisis, Didio pointed to Nightwing as his choice. He felt as though the natural progression of the storyline should have lead to his death. Geoff Johns was vehemently opposed to killing Nightwing."
"Titans East may get its own book and Wendy and Marvin will be used sporadically in Teen Titans."
"Regarding the New Teen Titans and the idea of Deathstroke coming back, "you will eventually see that." (Johns)."

Only this time, the character they've featured is... Robin! But that's not all-- Comics Continuum also provided two images of the new character, as well as a few snippets of information from their interview with supervising producer Duane Capizzi. KIDS' WB! ON THE CW ANNOUNCES 2006-2007 "TOO BIG FOR YOUR TV" SATURDAY MORNING PROGRAMMING SCHEDULE
Current hit Kids' WB! series returning to the fall schedule include THE BATMAN, with Robin joining the Caped Crusader in his crime-fighting exploits, LOONATICS UNLEASHED, XIAOLIN SHOWDOWN, all produced by Warner Bros. Animation, and JOHNNY TEST, produced this season by Cookie Jar Entertainment Inc.
LEGION OF SUPER HEROES, 11:00-11:30 am: In the year of "Superman Returns" at Warner Bros., Kids' WB! is proud to present a new series developed especially for the "Too Big For Your TV" block by Warner Bros. Animation, inspired by the DC Comics legend. One thousand years from now, a group of teenage super heroes travel back in time to recruit the greatest hero of all, Superman, and enlist him their fight against evil in the 31st Century. While their intentions were good, their time travel skills were not, and Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl, Brainiac 5, Phantom Girl, Bouncing Boy and Timber Wolf end up going too far back into the past, accidentally retrieving the young Superboy instead. Together, this unlikely Legion of Super Heroes bands together to defend the rights of all free worlds and uphold the laws of the newly formed United Planets. That is, if they don't kill each other first. LEGION OF SUPER HEROES combines humor with high-stakes, grand-scale super heroics to create the ultimate sci-fi, super hero fantasy for kids of all ages. Each episode of this fast-paced, character-driven action comedy will pit Superboy and the Legion against otherworldly threats and adversaries who challenge the team on both super heroic and emotional levels. The series is executive produced by Sander Schwartz, and produced by Linda Steiner and James Tucker for Warner Bros. Animation. Look for some of the Teen Titans staff to be working on Legion of Superheroes!
THE BATMAN, 11:30 am-12:00 Noon: THE BATMAN features the most complex and intriguing character in comic book history in action-packed super heroic adventures, melding the renowned character's extraordinary physical prowess and super-sleuthing skills with a new range of experimental Bat-gadgets and an amped-up Batmobile. The series premiered in fall 2004 and picked up Batman's story in his mid-20s, when he's just finding his way as a protector, defender and Caped Crusader, while balancing his public persona as billionaire bachelor Bruce Wayne. In the upcoming third season, the Dark Knight continues his relentless quest to rid Gotham City of its supervillains, but he's not alone. Robin joins the team, and the fabled Dynamic Duo is also occasionally joined by Batgirl. Harley Quinn, Black Mask, Killer Moth, the Everywhere Man and a brand-new Clayface join the rogues' gallery of villains, led by the Joker, Penguin and Riddler, who ceaselessly torment Batman and Gotham City. THE BATMAN is based upon the DC Comics characters and is executive produced by Sander Schwartz and Alan Burnett for Warner Bros. Animation. Duane Capizzi and Mike Goguen serve as supervising producers, and Linda Steiner and Jeff Matsuda are producers.

update > april 23 >> 2006Video Game Delay: Nothing to do with the production end
A reliable source was kind enough to check out the progress of the highly-anticipated yet mysteriously delayed TEEN TITANS video game on behalf of anxious fans. Here's what he had to say: "Okay, fans, I just heard from a friend who worked on the production side of things for the Titans video game. I'm told that they (the studio) finished their work a while back and that the delay seems to be on the publishing or distribution end. Even their producer didn't know what the hold up is, but their guess is that the [powers] that be may be waiting to release the game to coincide with other TT products. Or, my guess is that they're holding out for an event like the movie airing on CN or possibly even the San Diego Comicon where a lot of companies like to unveil/debut stuff. So, there you have it. Or not. And at last, we have (sort of) a reason for the delay."
Stay tuned for updates and more as we hear them!
update > april 17 >> 2006Bid on Cartoon Network Art for a Good Cause
From Character Designer Derrick Wyatt's blog: "Cartoon Network Studios is hosting a silent art auction to benefit Fyn Stec, a four and a half year old boy who has been diagnosed with a form of liver cancer. The proceeds of the auction will help Fyn's parents with the costs of the medical care. For information on how to bid online, or in person, click the link. Online bidding starts Monday, the 17th, and there are tons of great artist who have donated artwork for the cause."

update > april 10 >> 2006Teen Titans Video Game Delayed... Again!?
Looks like more bad news for fans who are anxiously awaiting the release of the TEEN TITANS video game for the GameCube, XBOX, and Playstation 2 consoles. According to EB Games, the game's release date has been pushed back to July 3, 2006.
This newest development is the latest in a series of frustrating delays for the video game. Earlier postponements have had the game set to hit stores on February 14, then April 4th, and then on May 1st. The Teen Titans Video Game official website still bills the game as an "exciting February release"... and the site is devoid of any explanation for (or mention of) the delays. We'll do our best to keep you updated, but TITANS fans might need to be ready to settle in for the long haul.

"Something happens in our city, the Titans get involved in a mystery, and they follow a lead to Tokyo, " [Glen] Murakami explains. "I think it's a good standalone storyline. A little bit of it focuses on Robin and Starfire - you'll see their relationship develop." There's no word on whether J-Pop theme song starlets Puffy AmiYumi will contribute more music to the movie, but Greg [Beast Boy] Cipes promises, "I do sing karaoke."

update >> february 3 >> 2006Cyborg on Smallville February 16th
Comics Continuum reports on Cyborg's appearance on an upcoming episode of Smallville. Here's how the network describes the episode, which will air on The WB on Thursday, Feb. 16: "A sympathetic doctor releases a half-human/half-machine subject named Victor who was being held captive and experimented on by LuthorCorp. While making his escape, Victor is struck by Lana's (Kristin Kreuk) car. After watching him walk away without a scratch, Lana calls Clark (Tom Welling) to investigate. Clark befriends Victor and promises to help him find his girlfriend, but Lex (Michael Rosenbaum) traps Victor and takes him back to LuthorCorp."
"Lee Thompson Young, who is playing Victor Stone, is a terrific actor and we're very excited about it," Smallville executive producer Al Gough told The Continuum. Gough said that Cyborg will be facing the same types of issues he did in the Teen Titans comics and animated series. "Victor Stone is a high-school football star who has a full ride to USC, but then he's in a terrible car accident," Gough said. "In our version, LuthorCorp takes him on as a project and sort of builds the limbs and the artificial intelligence that goes into that. For the full article, click here.

update >> february 1 >> 2006Nightwing Cameo on JLU
Nightwing makes a VERY brief cameo in the upcoming JLU episode, "Grudge Match." Here's how the network describes the episode: Roulette starts Metabrawl again, this time with an all-female fight card made up of Justice Leaguers. Check out the images here:
The episode has only aired in the UK, and is not yet scheduled to air in the United States. Thanks to Matt Helms for reporting this news!
update >> january 29 >> 2006Paul Dini Comments on JLU and Teen Titans
Paul Dini recently commented on JLU and Teen Titans on his livejournal: "I did an on camera interview with Bruce, David (Jimmy Olsen) Kaufman, Glen Murakami and Alan Burnett last night for the next (and last) SUPERMAN DVD set. Afterwards we went to dinner where Glen confirmed the end of TITANS, and Bruce said pretty much the same about JLU. There has been some talk about the JLU episodes airing earlier in the states, but that was still being debated at Cartoon Network. I forgot to ask Bruce how my Supergirl episode came out. Maybe I can get a preview if I'm at WB any time soon."
"I had heard people were getting more territorial with certain DC characters (no more Joker in JLU, for instance) but I didn't know the details. I knew two years ago when I left, that as heroes (and their villains) got snapped up in live movie options, it tended limited their appearances elsewhere."
update >> january 23 >> 2006Speedy Appears on Upcoming JLU
Speedy makes an animated appearance in the upcoming JLU episode, Patriot Act, as one of the Seven Soldiers of Victory! Comic book fans will recall that Speedy was a member of that Golden Age team of superheroes.
Here's how Cartoon Network describes the episode: When an out of control super soldier threatens Metropolis, Green Arrow leads seven non-powered Justice Leaguers, including Crimson Avenger and Shining Knight, in a battle they can’t hope to win.
Speedy's animated look on JLU is essentially a more grown-up version of his Teen Titans design. For images, check out Toon Zone's Speedy Bio for JLU. The episode has only aired in the UK, and is not yet scheduled to air in the United States. An interesting note: The JLU Speedy is voiced by Mike Erwin, who provided Speedy's voice on Teen Titans. This adds to the Teen Titans/JLU synergy established by Michael Rosenbaum voicing Flash on JLU and Kid Flash on Teen Titans.
Could Teen Titans and JLU actually exist in the same continuity? The way I figure it, TEEN TITANS is actually a prequel to BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES. It takes place during Dick Grayson's high school years. And oh, it's told from Beast Boy's point-of-view, which accounts for the slightly skewed wackiness of the series.
update >> january 18 >> 2006The Future of Teen Titans and JLU
Newsarama has published a very interesting article on WB Animation: "DOING THE LEAGUE JUSTICE: Timm & Tucker Talk About New Season…And Just What’s Up With WB Animation?" by Steve Fritz
Here's a segment from the article concerning the Teen Titans: "Here’s what I also know. When questioning both Warner Bros. and CN regarding the end of both the Teen Titans and the Justice League, both groups jumped on the defensive. CN, in particular, didn’t want me to think things were done with the Titans no matter what was being said. As proof they pointed out how the Titans had been moved to their new slot on the Miguzi afternoon block. As one of the channel’s most popular shows that does give me cause to pause."
"Personal speculation, supplemented by sources, makes me think we will be seeing more Titans and JL in some form or another. What will determine the future of the League will be the ratings of this upcoming season. As for everything else, I’ll be sitting back and waiting."
"On one final note, the Warners did tell me there is going to be a lot of announcements, in fact three sets of them, coming from them in the very near future. The first will be delivered during WonderCon this February 24-25. The second will be during the upfront sessions that will be held by Kids WB and CN on March 1. The last set will be around the middle of the March. "
But don't start throwing "Happy Blorthog" Parties yet! Keep in mind, much of the article is speculative; Also, I know for a fact that a few of the "development" projects Fritz talks about are in error. Also, Warner's could be referring to "Teen Titans: Trouble in Tokyo" DTV - which is a done deal and at the end of production.
The best thing EVERYONE can do is KEEP WRITING! Obviously, they are beginning to notice!

update >> january 12 >> 2006The More Things Change...
The upcoming episode, THINGS CHANGE, is the last Teen Titans episode of season five - and most likely the final episode of the Teen Titans series. After the final battle with the Brotherhood of Evil, what lies ahead for our favorite Titans characters?
Well, here's how the network describes the episode: “The Teen Titans are finally back home. But a walk through the city reveals that things are no longer as they remembered. And while Beast Boy wants everything to be just like it was in the past, he has to face the fact that in life things change.”
THINGS CHANGE is written by Story Editor Amy Wolfram. Expect the episode to contain a few small surprises. Amy revealed, "The way that I wrote that press blurb was very specific. It was written fairly vague, on purpose, because that will probably be our last episode. And it’s a wonderful, different way to end a season rather than doing a two-part fight."
Producer David Slack added, "Yes, that’s a nice little coda. Or, I should say, a nice big coda. Glen [Murakami] was talking about that episode back in season three. And ultimately, I think we couldn’t have found a better spot for it in the run of the series."
And Amy had some final thoughts on the season five closer, " It’s a nice way to remind us of who our characters are. I don’t know that’s it’s necessarily an end, a beginning or a middle. But it shows the characters, after having traveled a whole season, finally returning home. So it’s a nice way to go."Look for THING CHANGE to air Monday, at a special time [4:00pm EST], on Cartoon Network.
update >> january 11 >> 2006Titans Together!
In CALLING ALL TITANS and TITANS TOGETHER, there’s a lot of characters converging and battling; So is it challenging to write episodes like that and balance all the characters? Amy Wolfram, writer of CALLING ALL TITANS, as well as Story Editor, was quick to answer with a resounding, "Yes!"
Amy added, "For part one, CALLING ALL TITANS, that was definitely a challenge to have 54 characters fighting each other – and to have it build in a way that’s satisfying. So we used a trick from that old shampoo commercial, ‘so she told two friends, and he told two friends, and so on…’ So it’s constantly building exponentially, which I think was really cool."
So how were each of the face-offs created? Amy revealed, "The mixing and matching [of the characters] from my scenes came a lot from the board artists; They’d say, 'Wouldn’t it be cool if…' So I would say, 'Yeah. Let’s go for it.'"
Story Editor Rob Hoegee shared some of the process in creating the elaborate character-shuffling: "When we were doing the season finale episodes, you should have seen us. We got the big conference room here at the studio, which has a table that’s like 25 feet long. And the table was full of note cards - and had the artists draw a little picture of the character on each note card. So were literally mapped out where each character was at what point and what they were doing. It was really quite daunting."The conclusion of the ambitious storyline airs Saturday in TITANS TOGETHER, written by Rob Hoegee. Here's how the network describes the episode: All seems lost for young heroes across the globe: they have been spread far and wide, their lines of communication have been severed, and one by one, the Brotherhood of Evil takes them down. But as The Brain claims his victory is assured, one brave hero manages to slip thorough the Brotherhood of Evil's grasp.

update >> january 9 >> 2006The Challenge of Jericho
Comic book hero Jericho just made his animated debut in CALLING ALL TITANS. Jericho seems to be problematic to adapt for the purposes of the show – he’s mute, uses sign language, his power is to possess people… and he’s Slade’s son. Many of those elements appear challenging to translate well; Was Jericho a challenge?
Story Editor Rob Hoegee kindly provided some answers: “There was a great deal of discussion about Jericho and how we might be able to use him – and whether he was worthy of an episode. Everyone agrees he’s an interesting character – but it would be difficult to focus a whole episode on him. Since Jericho uses sign language, there were concerns that wouldn’t animate well. We wanted to do justice to the character, but it just didn’t work out to center a whole episode around him. But we do see Jericho. And he does play a big part in wrapping the season up.”
Look for Jericho – and many more Titans – in TITANS TOGETHER, airing this Saturday!

From the website of Marv Wolfman, co-creator of the New Teen Titans: "Although writer/story-editor/Producer David Slack told me it was coming up awhile back, by the time yesterday's Teen Titans episode, "Go!" came out I completely forgot that George Pérez and I made a little cameo in it. During one of the early battles btween Robin and Starfire they pan up to a rooftop and two of the people there are George and me. George is the huge bearded guy in the Hawaiian shirt (George in real life is NOT that Samoan looking) and I'm the skinny guy next to him. (In real life I am anything but anorexic)."
update >> december 16 >> 2005David Slack on Delivering "Go"
The upcoming episode, "Go," is an origin story written by series Producer/Writer, David Slack. At one point, it seemed like such an episode would never get made. So is there any pressure in delivering such a highly anticipated episode?
"Um... Ye-ah!," David answered, with mock-emphasis. "Always. You never want to write anything bad. But there's always pressure. For this one, I guess tremendous pressure. It actually became a little complicated to write. But I couldn't have picked a more fitting story for my final script on the series. Because it was really fun to do, and truly challenging to write. Usually in a standard episode, you would have an A plot with the villain, a B plot that's emotional and a C plot 'runner.' But for this one to work properly, I had to have 5 plots - one for each of the Titans. So however simplified, there had to be a little arc for each character - because that's how the story had to work. So it was a lot to fit into a half hour. But I was really pleased with the way that one came out. I think there's some cool stuff in there and I hope people enjoy it."
Story Editor Rob Hoegee assures us all, "I think it really turned out great."Look for "Go!" this Saturday, December 17th.

update >> december 13 >> 2005Teen Titans Are "Go"!
The Teen Titans airs its newest episode, entitled "Go." this Saturday, December 17th. Here's how the network describes this episode: " How did ROBIN meet STARFIRE? What was BEAST BOY's first joke? Why did CYBORG build his Sonic Cannon? When did RAVEN first call the Titans her friends? Return to the very beginning and see how it all started – from the word "GO!"
The episode is written by Writer-Producer David Slack. Having just finished writing the direct-to-video "Teen Titans: Tokyo," this is David's only script in season five.
When the series first began the animated staff steered away from an origin story. So what made them go back and do in now? I asked David that very question! Here's his answer: "After I finished writing the Direct-To-Video, there was one episode slot left in season five. [Story Editors] Rob [Hoegee] and Amy [Wolfram] were kind enough to let me come in and write that episode. We originally thought the finale for season five was going to be in three parts - but it ended up being two. So we had this set-up episode - and then decided we didn't need it. It was eventually Rob who sold us on the fact, "We should do this now." We never wanted to do it just to do it. But as Rob mentioned, this really felt right within the arc. We expanded the group of Titans and the connections between them; This new generation of heroes is being threatened. So it seemed like the perfect time to look back on how it all started."
Rob Hoegee added, "Another thing was this: All season long we slowly were pulling our characters apart. So it made total sense to have an episode where it shows them all coming together for the first time."
Look for more on "Go" later this week!
update >> december 12 >> 2005Robin Joins "The Batman" in Season Four
Legions of Gotham has reported that Robin will be introduced in the fourth season of "The Batman." Matt from Legion of Gothams reports: "I've heard from a few reputable sources now that since we're getting a season four, and since Titans was indeed cancelled....thats right....we WILL be seeing a new version of the boy wonder....ROBIN!"
titanstower.com has confirmed with a reliable source that the news is indeed true. Designs on Robin have already commenced. It certainly sheds some more light on the decision to end production on Teen Titans. But that doesn't mean we should stop trying to Save Season Six!

The excellent http://www.kryptonsite.com reports a Teen Titan will be heading for Smallville: "The fifteenth episode of Smallville's fifth season will feature a guest appearance by a popular member of DC Comics' Teen Titans. The hero in question this time around is Cyborg, a character who rose to popularity in the classic Marv Wolfman/George Perez New Teen Titans comics who also is features on the Cartoon Network's Teen Titans animated series. The title of the episode is, of course, "Cyborg.""

update >> december 8 >> 2005Teen Titans Start Their Engines For "Revved Up"
The Teen Titans upcoming episode, REVVED UP, airs this Saturday. The episode is written by John Espisito ["Revolution"]. This adventure features the extremely obscure Teen Titans villain, Ding Dong Daddy - as well as the return of Red X.
Story Editor Rob Hoegee spilled some details about this episode: "We had always talked about doing a "Wacky Races" episode. I think long before we even decided to put Ding Dong Daddy in it. We wanted to do that type of "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" meets "Cannonball Run" meets "Wacky Races" meets "Teen Titans." So as we looked at that story, it seemed like the perfect excuse to use Ding Dong Daddy - who is quite an obscure villain in the comics. And we actually got David Johansen - otherwise known as Buster Poindexter - also former the singer of the New York Dolls - to do the voice for him. That was a great surprise. He really brings that character to life. John Espisito - who wrote REVOLUTION - was the writer on that one. And he did a great job."
And what about the return of Red X in REVVED UP? Rob was more tight-lipped about the mysterious character's reappearance. " He does make a brief appearance," Rob noted. "I hope the fans are satisfied with his brief appearance in this one. That's all I can say right now.”
Here's how the network describes the episode: " Robin's most prized possession is stolen by the hip hot-rodder DING DONG DADDY, and to get it back they're going to have to beat him in a cross-country ROAD RACE. But with Ding Dong Daddy making the rules and a few unexpected rivals joining in the competition, it's anyone's guess who will cross the finish line first! "
update >> december 7 >> 2005Obscure Ding Dong Daddy Gets Animated
Ding Dong Daddy makes his animated debut in the upcoming episode, "Revved Up." Ding Dong Daddy had exactly one appearance in TEEN TITANS #3 [1966]. The President's Commission on Education asked the Teen Titans to help deal with the problem of High School dropouts. In the town of Harrison, the young heroes discovered dropouts being hired by Ding-Dong Daddy Dowd, proprietor of a custom hot-rod and bike shop. Uncovering evidence that Dowd's operation was a front for criminals, the Titans went undercover as would-be drop-outs and exposed his schemes, and persuaded his teenage employees to return to school.

Editor Eddie Berganza liked my work there, and we’d talk from time to time about my writing something for DC outside the “Johnny DC” titles. update >> december 1 >> 2005The Voice Behind Kid Flash
As previously reported here at titanstower.com, Michael Rosenbaum will provide the voice for Kid Flash. The creative team hinted at the San Diego Comic Con that Kid Flash's identity under the mask would be more obvious than the mystery surrounding Robin's identity. I recently caught up with Rob Hoegee, who wrote the episode, "Lightspeed", which features the debut of Kid Flash. I pointed out how the casting of Rosenbaum created some symmetry with the Wally West Flash from Justice League. "Interesting coincidence!," Rob chuckled.
"As we were thinking about the voice of Kid Flash," Rob continued, "we thought, if we're going to use Kid Flash, "Wouldn't it be great if we could get Michael to do the voice?" As luck would have it, he was available and we got him to do it!" So I guess it's pretty obvious who is behind that Kid Flash mask! Kid Flash is slated to appear in the fifth season of Teen Titans in the upcoming episode, "Lightspeed". A founding member of the comic book super-team, many fans have been anxiously awaiting his animated appearance. The episode is written by Rob Hoegee. Rob recently offered up some hints on the nature of that episode: “Without getting into details, it’s an interesting perspective on a Teen Titans story. With emphasis on “Perspective.” Season five is in a lot of ways a departure from the way we did things previously. We’re at a point where we can take some chances and tell some different kinds of stories.”
Which Kid Flash will be featured in the episode? An insider reveals that unlike Robin, it should be "fairly obvious" who is under the mask this time! You can do your Kid Flash homework and visit the Kid Flash [Wally West] page and the Kid Flash II [Bart Allen] page to start your own theories. Here's how the network describes the episode: "With Titans dispatched across the globe, members of the Hive Five figure they have it made. Unfortunately their city-wide crime spree is cut short when a new hero in town spoils the fun. Handing him over to the Brotherhood of Evil may score the Hive Five points, but actually catching this lightning-fast do-gooder is much harder than it seems." Lightspeed airs December 3rd. Look for this to arrive in stores on February 7th. The cost will be $19.98 SRP for a single disc (possibly double-sided? We're not sure) that will contain all 13 episodes. It's a bummer to re-buy season one, but it's great that Warner Bros. FINALLY sees the market for season sets.
update >> november 15 >> 2005Teen Titans' Sixth Season Looks Unlikely
A source very close to production of Teen Titans has alerted titanstower.com: The prospect of a sixth season of the popular series is looking very, very, very dim. So if anyone was inclined to start a letter writing campaign, it needs to be started yesterday!
If you feel there are more Titans stories to be told, let Cartoon Network know how you feel. Snail mail is the most effective way. Scores of individual letters have the most impact; Petitions are generally worthless in networks' eyes. The best bet is to start a letter writing campaign with individual heartfelt letters stating you would like the show to continue.

A new episode, "Hide And Seek ", premieres tonight on Cartoon Network's Miguzi. The same episode airs Saturday in its regular timeslot. Here's how the network describes the episode: With the other Teen Titans off fighting exciting battles with the Brotherhood of Evil, Raven is left with the worst task of all -- transporting three rambunctious future superheroes to safety. But this simple task turns into an adventure in babysitting as Raven and her young charges are chased through the Alps by the Brotherhood of Evil's Msr. Mallah.
The episode features the debut of three characters created specifically for the animated series: Timmy Tantrum, Teether and Melvin. update >> november 3 >> 2005"Kole" Episode Details
A new episode, "Kole", airs this Saturday. Here's how the network describes the episode: While in the Arctic Circle, the Teen Titans once again take on Dr. Light. And when an accident sends the Titans through the ice, they discover a new exotic Underworld --and two new superheroes, Kole and her caveman sidekick Gnarrk.
This one's written by Amy Wolfram ["Terra", "Betrothed" and "Trust" among others]. Look for Dee Bradley Baker as Gnarrk and Rodger Bumpass as Dr. Light.
Kole and Gnarrk are both characters taken from the comic book series. A gentle Caveman out of his own time, Gnarrk first appeared in Teen Titans #33 [1971]. He bonded with the Titan Lilith Clay before his tragic death. Kole was introduced in New Teen Titans (second series) #9 [1985]. The gentle crystal spinner Kole Weathers gained powers as a product of her father's bizarre experiments. Kole was rescued by the Titans and grew close to Jericho before her untimely demise in the Crisis on Infinite Earths. Look for the NEWLY REVISED entries for Gnarrk and Kole here at titanstower.com - with even more info and images!
So how much will th characters borrow from their comic book counterparts? Writer Amy Wolfram offers some hints: "She has some similarities to her comic book version, but she has some new things, too. We have the great fortune of having a lot of great characters – Titans East and honorary Titans. We definitely have a lot of good ones we can use."

A new episode, "Snowblind", airs this Saturday. Here's how the network describes the episode: "While battling a mysterious creature in the wilds of Siberia, Starfire is lost in a blinding snowstorm. When Robin and the rest of the Titans arrive, they discover Red Star hides not only a tragic past, but a destructive secret."
Titanstower.com recently caught up with Rob Hoegee, who penned the episode featuring Red Star. Rob spilled some info: “I did read up a little about Red Star [in the comic books]. He’s coming up in an episode called SNOWBLIND. We wanted to create our own take on that character. Other than his name and his costume and a bit of his backstory, he is very much a new take on that character. But he is still from Russia, like in the comics.”
The episode is written by Rob Hoegee ["The End [part two]," "Employee of the Month"]. Red Star's voice is provided by Jason Marsden, who also played Billy Numerous. Also look for Ed O'Ross as the character, Raskov.
