Aquagirl II Quick Bio: After a genetic anomaly was introduced to the San Diego water supply, the California city sunk into the ocean. Teenager Lorena Marquez soon discovered that her body had been altered to survive the ocean depths. It wasn't long before Lorena allied with Aquaman as the newest Aquagirl.

Sub Diego

Lorena's normal teenage life was shattered without warning or reason. While on a date at the San Diego Zoo, catastrophe struck - a quake caused the sinking of San Diego into the sea - killing thousands - including Lorena's family. Awaking in a panic, Lorena reached the surface and came into contact with Aquaman. Still in shock, Aquaman nursed Lorena as he learned she had mysteriously gained the ability to breathe under water.

Lorena and Aquaman teamed up to investigate the cause of the sunken city. They located a number of San Diego survivors as well as the man responsible for their condition: a scientist named Geist. Geist used Aquaman's DNA to introduce a genetic anomaly into the San Diego water supply. This self-replicating strand of DNA converted the populace's respiratory, auditory, ocular and muscular systems to a more marine-based model. This experiment was done in the name of science - Geist's effort to save humanity from the upcoming global warming. Geist was financed by a mysterious corporate benefactor , whose identity remains a mystery. The corporation had caused the quake which sunk San Diego to test the results of Geist's' experiments.

Lorena and the other underwater residents of San Diego had no choice but to build a new life under the sea. But Lorena took a more proactive stance - helping Aquaman defend her new home and keep it safe. Later dubbed "Sub Diego", Lorena and Aquaman became the city's protectors.

Aquagirl

When Ocean Master used mystical means to switch lives with Aquaman, Lorena assumed the role of Aquagirl in the new twisted reality. After Aquaman exposed his scheme, Lorena decided to keep the costume she had acquired. As co-protector of Sub Diego, Lorena became the new Aquagirl.

After Superboy's tragic death during the Infinite Crisis, the Teen Titans faced a year of heartache and turmoil. Aquagirl joined the team for a short time, but later left abruptly to aid Sub Diego's citizens. Aquaman and Aquagirl discovered the ocean began to reject the transformation wrought on the people of Sub Diego, slowing killing them. Aquaman, with the guidance of some sea gods, used the power in his water-hand to raise the city, but suffered a transformation as a result - he became a squid-like creature known as "The Dweller."

Inexplicably, Lorena and some other Sub Diego citizens retained their marine-like biology. Together, they built a new underwater city and called it Sub Diego.

Like all denizens of Sub-Diego, Lorena can breathe underwater, has enhanced speed (can swim up to 100mph in water, enhanced strength, and extreme durability (she can withstand extremes of temperature and pressure). In the "Titans Tomorrow" future storyline, Lorena has telepathic powers. Whether Lorena will develop these abilities in the present remains to be seen.

Aquaman (fourth series) #26 [2005]: Introducing the newest member of Aquaman's task force: Aquagirl! Aquaman's new priority is Sub Diego's security as he cracks down on all illegal activity. Some citizens believe he's gone too far. First appearance of Lorena as Aquagirl.
Aquaman (fourth series) #28 [2005]: Lorena decides to remain as "Aquagirl" after a reality-bending adventure.
Teen Titans #34 [2006]: One Year Later, it's "The New Teen Titans!" A new year of exciting adventures begins with the "new" Teen Titans. Hawk, Dove, Aquagirl II, Zatara III, Offspring and Miss Martian are revealed as Titans members during the one year gap in a brief flashback panel.

Aquaman, with the guidance of some sea gods, uses the power in his water-hand to raise the city, but suffers this transformation as a result; He is transformed into the Dweller.

The One Year Gap Titans

AQUAGIRL

"You call this the Titans? Since Superboy died, the Titans have gone through over twenty new members. But no one wanted to stay very long. No one got along."

DC's "One Year Later" event occurred March of 2006. In Teen Titans #33, Superboy and Nightwing are in the thick of the Infinite Crisis world-shattering event. With Teen Titans #34, a full year has passed since the Crisis. A comatose Cyborg awakens to discover the only active Titans: Robin, Ravager and Kid Devil. Cyborg is told that the Titans had quite a few membership shake-ups during his "missing year."

Readers shared in Cyborg's confusion. Following the limited series, Infinite Crisis, every DC comic series jumped ahead by one year between February 2006 and March 2006. With DC's March books, the characters' histories resumed "one year later." During the "missing year" between Teen Titans #33 and #34, over 20 new or returning members joined the team. They would come and go, most only being on the team a few weeks before quitting or getting kicked out or simply disappearing. One team was glimpsed at in Teen Titans #34. Teen Titans #38 revealed all the "One Year Gap Titans" in a double page spread.

Here’s a list of major events revealed during the “Missing Year:”
The Titans aid the heroes during the Infinite Crisis. While saving the universe from Superboy-Prime and Alexander Luthor, Superboy is killed in battle. [IC #1-7] With Superboy, Wonder Girl, Robin, Kid Flash, Starfire and Cyborg gone, Raven and Beast Boy try to keep the Teen Titans together. [TT #34]
Speedy tries to keep the Titans together with a team consisting of Hawk, Dove, Aquagirl, Miss Martian, Offspring and Zatara. [TT #34]
Raven and Beast Boy hold a membership drive for the Teen Titans after their ranks have been depleted. Outside Titans Tower, many would-be Titans and current-Titans gather for the team, including Argent, Flamebird, Mirage, Red Star, Joker's Daughter, Captain Marvel Jr., Aquagirl II, Kid Devil, Talon, Miss Martian, Bombshell, Offspring, Young Frankenstein, Mas Y Menos, and Molecule.
